Hi, I'm Ashley.
Chap & Bird is named after my pets, Chappy the cat and Birdie the dog. They're currently asleep somewhere in my studio, which is also our home, near the beach on Amelia Island, Florida.
The idea started a few years ago when I helped a friend bring his sailboat from Florida down to the Caribbean. In the Bahamas, I found beautiful hand-printed fabric I couldn't stop thinking about. I brought them home, made a few pillows, and people started asking where they could buy one. So I started making more.
Making things for people's homes turned out to be the thing I couldn't stop doing. There's something about handing over a pillow or a quilt coat or a mahjong bag, knowing it's going to a beach house in Amelia Island or a sunroom in Martha's Vineyard, that I find completely rewarding.
Everything at Chap & Bird is made by me, by hand, in premium fabrics I source myself. The runs are small. Most pieces are one of a kind. That's on purpose. The whole point is that what shows up at your door is unlikely to show up at anyone else's.
